Henkel’s early beginnings were linked to their adhesive solutions. After the First World War, a supply shortage of adhesives at Henkel’s headquarters in Düsseldorf created a solution that would change Henkel forever in 1922. Henkel would start manufacturing their own adhesives to package their existing products such as their laundry detergent. They would soon export this to neighbouring businesses.

In 1991, Henkel acquired Heidelberg-based TEROSON, and shortly after in 1997, LOCTITE. Both brands have been leading the adhesives and sealants market globally and locally. LOCTITE and TEROSON products are leading adhesive solutions for automotive vehicles in the UK and beyond, providing solutions that keep manufacturer and end-point consumer preferences in mind.

While a vehicle operates, materials in the vehicle such as adhesives are essential to ensure a safe, reliable, and sustainable driving experience. Henkel Adhesives provide bespoke solutions that address swift developments in the automotive industry, including autonomous driving and connectivity.

Solutions such as bonding, protecting, sealing, and thermal management ensure more efficiency as well as sustainability. Adhesives also provide an invaluable advantage to the automotive industry: lightweighting.

Lightweighting occurs when the weight of an object is reduced by utilising less materials. Henkel’s adhesives are instrumental in lightweighting vehicles such as cars whilst keeping the same robust safety and performance standards. Adhesives reduce the need for extra materials, while at the same time enhancing the sustainability of the vehicle. Through the decreased vehicle body weight, fuel efficiency is increased, and manufacturing costs decreased by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMS). By making a car lighter, lightweighting helps vehicles ensure they are up to UK and Ireland environmental standards.

These solutions ensure that safety and reliability are never compromised, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and road safety in the UK as well as globally.
