Henkel joins an ‘unprecedented’ industry-wide project to reduce the cosmetics sector’s environmental footprint in Europe.

Henkel partners with ‘Commit for our Planet’

Henkel is one of 27 pioneer companies joining the ‘Commit For Our Planet’ initiative which aims to provide tools and guidelines to support the delivery of sustainability commitments. On an annual basis, the association plans to report on the overall action against the commitments to demonstrate industry progress and positive environmental impact.

The other partner companies include, AVA Cosmetic Laboratory, Babaria, Beiersdorf, Börlind, Bruno Vassari, Colgate Palmolive, Cosnova, Coty, Dalli Group, Floslek, Gardiner Family Apothecary (Elave), Global Cosmed, Keune, La Biosthétique, L’Occitane, L’Oréal, LVMH, MartiDerm, Naos, Natura Bissé, Salerm Cosmetics, Schwan Cosmetics, SystemKosmetik, Unilever, Wala and Weleda.

The initiative seeks to reduce the industry’s environmental footprint across the value chain in Europe through joint-effort and action. Using a tiered approach, the sector is brought together to amplify efforts, measure impact, and collectively address environmental challenges.

Three specific commitments of climate, packaging and nature will help drive progress in optimising sustainable production and consumption of goods. Cosmetics Europe will continually revise and reinforce these sustainability commitments to reflect environmental challenges.

“We developed the initiative to be inclusive of the whole industry, with commitments that can be tailored to all company sizes and types, regardless of Cosmetics Europe membership or where they stand in their sustainability journeys. This is to ensure that there is an opportunity for everyone to help meet societal and planetary needs”, said John Chave, Director General at Cosmetics Europe.
