Building bonds in a school

With the support of Henkel’s Make an Impact on Tomorrow (MIT) funding, employees from the Adhesive Technologies business unit organized a social outreach activity at the Ban Kan Khoa Hin Thaen School. The activity not only helped an underprivileged community, but also provided a team-building opportunity for the colleagues.

More than 50 students learned about simple habits and practices to help conserve the environment.

The school is located in a rural district of the Rayong Province, where most students come from low-income backgrounds. Due to limited resources, the school could not afford a cleaner and that left the premises in a bad shape. In addition, there was no staff to help them with manual repair work.

For three days, our Henkel employees worked together to repaint and clean the school. The area covered was extensive and included two school blocks, a multi-purpose building and a canteen. As the employees are also certified Henkel Sustainability Ambassadors, they conducted sustainability lessons for more than 50 students, encouraging them to adopt simple habits and practices that would help conserve the environment.

Dale Jamieson, Country Manager, Transport and Metal Adhesives, Henkel Thailand, said, “Social engagement has always been an integral part of our corporate culture at Henkel, with education initiatives being an important priority. For this reason, we chose to support the Ban Kan Khoa Thaen School. The activity enabled us to connect as a team and make a positive contribution to the community. I hope this example would lead more colleagues to come forward and organize similar initiatives that will go a long way in helping us achieve our sustainability goals.”

As part of its sustainability strategy, Henkel promotes social engagement to support and empower underprivileged communities. The MIT initiative, founded in 1998, provides funding in this regard for volunteer projects started by our employees. Since the launch of the MIT fund, Henkel has supported volunteer projects in more than 50 countries worldwide.
