20 years Henkel website
Today, we celebrate ourselves, more precisely: Henkel’s corporate website. This year, it is celebrating its 20th birthday. With more than eleven million visitors annually, the website is Henkel’s most important presence – and that globally with almost 40 country versions.
When graphics-capable browsers increased public usage of the internet in 1993, no one could have imagined how this technology would change our everyday lives. Today, there are nearly one billion websites worldwide and according to estimations, 215 billion emails are being sent and received every day.
Henkel goes online
Henkel was active right from the start: 20 years ago, the company launched its first bilingual website – offering general information, official publications and news about Henkel. Even back then, users were able to write in a guest book or gather information on job openings. Shortly after, the first country specific websites went live – e.g. for the United States, Brazil or France.
Of course, the websites back then had very little in common with today’s modern platform. Over time, the Henkel websites have constantly evolved and been adapted, based on changes in user patterns and individual needs of target groups. The last relaunch of the corporate website was completed just recently. “Today, smartphones and tablets have become an integral part of our everyday lives. Therefore, a responsive design and an intuitive operating via touch screens are a must for websites. Furthermore, users expect customized content set to their individual needs. No one is willing to search for information for a long time,” says Bettina Fischer, Head of Corporate Digital Communications.
Also in external reviews, the Henkel website is well acknowledged: the consultancy NetFed for example, ranked the website’s career section on fourth place, in a ranking of 75 human resources websites. In the consumer goods industry, Henkel was ranked first.
