Bringing a reusable canvas bag to the grocery store is a sustainable choice – it can be reused many times, meaning fewer plastic bags need to be produced and that valuable resources are saved.

The program followed the educational goal of the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture for the academic year 2014 – 2015: “Sustainability: We make our schools greener, we improve our quality of life”. It included teaching kids about sustainability at school, with the help of specially developed teaching aids and audiovisual material. More than 10,500 pupils from all primary schools in Cyprus participated, earning the title of “Sustainability Knight” as well as diplomas and memorabilia for taking part.

Dixan also sponsored a number of sustainable actions in the schools, including the creation of vegetable gardens, the cleaning of beaches and parks, tree planting, wildlife protection initiatives in association with the respective governmental authorities, the replacement of energy consuming lamps with LED, installation of water tap automation systems, the purchase of compost and recycling bins and the development of informative material for local communities.

The Green Awards Committee for the 5th Annual Environmental Awards comprised 37 independent organizations, institutions and corporations.
