Henkel sponsors 21st “Mitja” – the Montornès Half-Marathon
For the last 50 years, Henkel’s main production facility in the Iberian Peninsula has been in Montornès del Vallès. Throughout this period, the company has continued to cement its relationship with the local population and further its social engagement activities within the region. Henkel’s support for the popular Montornès half-marathon, known as the “Mitja” is a case in point. With the run celebrating its 21st edition, Henkel wanted to be a presence at all the festivities which, during Mitja week, provide the region with a lively array of sporting and community activities.
The 21st edition of the popular Mitja half-marathon along the Montornès-Montmeló-Vilanova-La Roca route was the main event in a program of sporting activities during “Mitja 2014” week. Henkel took the opportunity of this latest Mitja to cement its ties and the good relationships it has built up over the years with the people of the region. The Mitja followed the same route as in previous years, with the starting line and the area where all the initial excitement takes place conveniently located in front of Henkel’s facilities in Montornès.
Since 21 years, Henkel has been fully committed to supporting the Mitja de Montornès, assuming the role of its principal sponsor as the years have passed. Such sponsorships reinforce Henkel’s commitment to the people who live in the vicinity of its production and administrative sites, providing support to the communities within which the company operates.
Through this form of partnership, Henkel is able to underpin its initiative of building solidarity with the locality. Specifically, for each registration to the Mitja the company donates 50 eurocents to projects aligned to social integration undertaken by the Red Cross of Granollers in the Vallès Oriental district. Moreover, the entire takings from the children’s fun-run known as the “Mini Marathon of Solidarity” are donated to the pediatric ward of Granollers Hospital, a major center of referral for the towns and villages involved in the Mitja. The money is used for the purchase of non-medical materials to make life a little more pleasant for the boys and girls admitted to the hospital. In keeping with tradition, the participants of this latest edition of the event also received the usual hamper of Henkel products featuring the company’s latest innovations
Apart from the high point of the Mitja run itself, the preceding week was full of activities showcasing local facilities and heritage and geared to encouraging the local population to adopt healthy lifestyle habits. In this way the Mitja appeals to the general public, getting everyone in the area involved in its wider aspects.
